Is TRICARE the Same as TRICARE West or TriWest?
Not exactly. TRICARE, TRICARE West, and TriWest are three different services available to veterans.
TRICARE is the program covering U.S. Department of Defense Military Health Care System.
In the western United States, Health Net Federal Services serves as the administrator for TRICARE. This plan is known as TRICARE West, Health Net TRICARE, or HNFS.
TriWest, on the other hand, is the third-party administrator for the VA: The Department of Veterans Affairs. While most veterans seek care through the VA’s network of facilities, they occasionally reach out to community providers like Hope by the Sea. Since 1996, TriWest has overseen these services for Regions 4 and 5: the western U.S. and Alaska.
