Our Philosophy
We believe in our program, and even more importantly, we believe in our clients.
Getting to treatment takes an incredible amount of strength, courage, and determination that people without addictions might not fully understand. We do.
That’s why our patients trust Hope By The Sea to guide them through treatment and recovery.
The Story of Our California Treatment Center
When the Carlsen family decided to create Hope By The Sea, we had a clear goal in mind. Development began with a focus on integrity, honesty, and excellent client care. From day one, the well-being of each individual has been our top priority.
Hope By The Sea was founded in October of 2002. We officially opened our doors as a six-bed facility in April of 2003 – by that time, we had assembled a team of experts to treat chemical dependency. Every member of our staff is outstanding in their field; for example, Penny Carlsen, RN, joined us with 30 years of experience running and administrating large medical practices. We wanted to work with the best of the best; that’s still true today.
Our original programming focused on dual diagnosis treatment. Through a blend of the 12 Steps and clinical care, we addressed the psychological factors that contribute to substance use disorder.
Since our founding, Hope By The Sea has grown exponentially. Today, we offer detoxification, residential treatment, outpatient programming, specialty programs, and long-term care. We currently have 57 beds and provide the full continuum of care – from detox to transitional living – in a restorative, supportive environment.
Hope By The Sea is still a family venture driven by our core values. We have faith in our patients, our outstanding staff, and our proven approach to treatment.
Our Philosophy
Inner Strength
At Hope By The Sea, we believe in our clients’ inner strength and ability to change. We know that the right addiction treatment center can provide the support that is critical to an individual’s successful recovery, but ultimately, it’s up to each person to find the drive to recover.
That’s why we provide clients with every tool at our disposal to empower them to live without the crutch of addictive substances. Through in-depth counseling, our clients learn to tap into their own inner strength and utilize outside support.
Resolving Issues
For most people, substance abuse is a symptom of underlying issues. Drinking and drug use are defective defense mechanisms used to deny problems and feelings. Our trained specialists help clients to uncover and resolve these concerns.
We frequently incorporate 12-Step principles in this process, since they have helped countless men and women to recover. We also offer a non-12-Step track designed for those with whom the Steps do not resonate.
Finding Serenity
Through our rehabilitation programs, our goal is to help those struggling with addiction to find peace and serenity by walking through their fears instead of hiding behind them. At Hope By The Sea, we carefully choose our staff members based on their high qualifications and ability to empathize with every person who walks through our doors.
We also know that addiction treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all – that’s why we have decided to offer a wide array of programs and specialties, including our:
- Young adult track
- Christian drug rehab
- Family program
- Men’s-only and women’s-only tracks
- Treatment for veterans
- Non-12-Step programming
- Executive program
- Programming for military families
